It’s Keith and Mary with a little winter happiness to share with you. Don’t you just love the crisp, snowy world we live in right now? Apart from the unending Covid, escalating tensions with China, catastrophic weather events, impending Russian invasion, imploding political system, rampant inflation, heightened racism, and the Packers play-off debacle, there’s still hot chocolate, cozy blankets, and love. I was reminded the other day of the water metaphor about swans looking so serene floating along the pond while they are vigorously paddling out of view beneath the surface. In contrast, there is another water metaphor of a tempest furiously churning up the sea, but the deeper you go, the calmer the waters. I prefer the second story and hold it in my heart. I allow myself to sink into the depths and the beauty of one simple expression “This too shall pass.” Meanwhile, there is that crisp, snowy world filled with wonder and awe. Here’s some of the things that make our struggles in life worth it! Happy Winter! And I wrote a haiku for you up top. — m2

During his annual physical, Keith mentioned to his doctor that he sometimes got a funny feeling in his chest. So the routine diagnostic battery was ordered and there was a little spot on the upper left that did not show blood flow. They felt they needed to further investigate because, among other things, it might be dead tissue from a previous heart attack or a blockage. After the heart catherization procedure, the doctor said Keith “has the heart of an 18-year old…we don’t often see heart’s as healthy as his.” Nothing to report. Pristine plumbing throughout. Their theory is that perhaps not enough dye was injected for the test (Keith has huge blood vessels), and there wasn’t adequate contrast to show the blood flow in that area, so it appeared dark. The dark spot was merely an artifact of the test. So what was the funny feeling? They don’t know and they don’t care.
