In December, 2024, I created a new adventure for Keith and me. I thought I’d keep it quiet while I tested it out for the year, but, by late August, it had been working so well I just couldn’t wait to share it with family and friends. At this stage of life, Keith and I both believe it’s important to continue challenging ourselves, to keep making room for improvement, even in the small things. So I designed this project to help us grow, learn, and create in ways that feel truly meaningful to us. It’s about taking small steps every day toward becoming a little better human. I initially named it Misogi, after an ancient Japanese practice which served as my inspiration. As I studied more , I married Misogi with a more modern practice called Harada. This is recommended for serious practitioners who are devoted to a serious commitment for a year or more. I also designed a sister project I named Mini-Misogi. It is little experiments that teach you about yourself, reawaken your dreams, and grow the breadth and depth of your life, and, perhaps, help you find something you want to make into a serious Misogi. I share both Misogi and Mini-Misogi with you below.

Becoming: Misogi and Harada is a free workbook for those standing at the edge of change.
Misogi offers clarity, structure, and a humane way to evolve. A Misogi is not about doing something big. It’s about becoming someone new.”

This little book is your invitation, introduction, and initiation. It brings together two traditions, one ancient and symbolic, the other modern and practical, to offer a humane, grounded approach to personal transformation. It’s not about fixing yourself or chasing productivity. It’s about choosing one meaningful challenge, tending it with devotion, and allowing your identity to shift naturally over time. Inside you’ll find: (1) clear explanations of Misogi and the Harada Method, (2) guided reflections and worksheets you can use at your own pace, (3) support for identity-based change, not willpower-based striving, and (4) a full arc, from choosing your Misogi to completing it with grace. I offer this information freely and forever, as my gift to you.

How to Choose Your Mini-Misogi

A small challenge, done with intention, can change a month.

A small challenge, done with intention, can help you hear the bigger Misogi whispering to your soul

A small challenge, done with intention, can change more than a month. It can change a lifetime.

A Mini-Misogi is a short, purposeful experiment you run for one month.
It is not a test of willpower.
It is a way to practice becoming the person you want to be, one small decision at a time.

Step 1 — Pick a Category That Matters Right Now

Choose the area of life that feels most ready for improvement:

  • Health & Wellness

  • Personal Development

  • Financial Growth

  • Relationship & Community

  • Spiritual Growth

  • Creative Expression

Step 2 — Choose Your “Level”

Every challenge can be done in three ways:

Beginner = Gentle, realistic, confidence-building
Moderate = Noticeably stretching, but sustainable
Bold = A real reset, a brave experiment, a strong signal to yourself

You are allowed to choose Beginner even if you are capable of Bold.
The goal is not intensity. The goal is follow-through.

Step 3 — Choose One Challenge (Only One)

Pick one challenge for the month.

If you pick too many, you dilute the power.
If you pick one, you create momentum.

Step 4 — Decide What “Success” Looks Like

Success is not perfection.
Success is consistency.

A strong Mini-Misogi is one you can complete at 70–85% effort even on hard days.

Step 5 — Add a Tiny Tracking Method

Choose one simple way to track:

  • a checkbox calendar

  • a habit tracker

  • a sticky note on the fridge

  • a one-sentence daily log

  • a weekly reflection

Step 6 — Close the Month With a 5-Minute Reflection

At the end of the month, ask:

  1. What changed in me?

  2. What surprised me?

  3. What felt easier than expected?

  4. What felt harder than expected?

  5. What should I keep, adjust, or release?

That’s it.
One month. One experiment. One shift.
