Resources for Hosting an Art Master Party

If you are a reader of Life at 240, you know we host a little Art Master party about once a month during which we attempt to have some riotous fun, teach the kids about an artist, and undertake an art project inspired by that artist’s work. We encourage you to try this satisfying practice for the children in your life, and to get started, these resources are most helpful.

This book is special in so many ways. If you are at loss for ideas, this book offers a trove of art projects inspired by the works associated with fourteen sources: 1) the Lascaux caves, 2) the Balgo community, 3) the Kuba tribe, 4) Giuseppe Arcimboldo, 5) Kaysushika Hokusai, 6) Edgar Degas, 7) Vincent Van Gogh, 8) Henri Rousseau, 9) Wassily Kandinsky, 10) Paul Klee, 11) Diego Rivera, 12) Henry Moore, 13) Kenojuak Ashevak, and 14) Andy Warhol.

The book not only provides an introduction to the artists and their art, but covers a broad range of media and techniques, with a light smattering of art history as well. The supply lists and instructions are thoughtful and thorough. The projects are diverse and creative. We want to do them all. My Art Book (public library) was written by Will Heap.

The target demographic is primary school. Our youngest grandchildren were in second, fourth, and fifth grades when we did our first projects from this book and they each found them compelling.

The last time I checked, it was around $8.00 for the hard cover My Art Book (Amazon).
