TATER & POTATO DAY
I don’t recall when or how it started. We’d have to get that story from my granddaughter Ada or her parents. All I know is that somehow her nickname became “Potato” or “Tater”, depending on your level of awe and affection.
She has since been regaled regularly by friends and admirers with potato-related articles, memes, and memorabilia. So when National Potato Day rolled around on August 19th, I just had to give a gift in tribute to my little curly fry.
I toddled over to the local Walmart to peruse the aisles for something suitable. This is where I came upon this most perfect of all “love potatoes.”
Although I knew the heart-shaped tater would be well-received, I think everything in life is better with a poem. Here is the one I wrote for Ada. You can see her reading it as well. The night was Spud-tacular!
NATIONAL POTATO DAY
When mater and pater
gave birth to The Tater
“A+” said the rater
they thanked the creator
she walked the line straighter
and never would cater
no traitor or hater
(excluding Lord Vader)
she sometimes would crater
but grew to be greater
fun gigs as a waiter
a spanish translator
with dreds she’s a braider
and now a debater
they all want to date her
but Morgan will mate her
baked
fried
mashed
smashed
much fun for her later
I love our sweet Tater
