The Ladybug Literary Society sponsored a story writing contest this month in honor of the famous witch-poet Ugly Bugly. Children from across the universe submitted stories about Ugly Bugly and vied for fabulous prizes. Ugly Bugly was the judge and sent some prizes and her decisions to our house to be awarded after the annual Halloween parade. Here is her note. As you can see in the photo above, Roland won first place for the Best Story by a Human Boy.
Roland won a super cool prize for his super cool story. This will give him that coveted Ugly Bugly fashion flair all young men crave. The witch gave him three t-shirts: (1) a classic gathering of skeletons, (2) the always esoteric Polaroid ad, and (3) a nod to the most disturbingly brilliant cartoon ever - Rick & Morty. We were all unsure whether he would actually be allowed to wear them to school. Time will tell.
As you read in Ugly Bugly’s letter, Presley and Lilly tied for Best Story by a Human Girl. Ugly Bugly suggested that Keith May cut the prize for Presley and Lilly into two chunks and give them each half.
At first they were leery about this idea. When they actually saw the prize, they were adamantly opposed. They decided a better option would be to share happily like good little sisters.
Ugly Bugly thinks sharing is stupid and would not be pleased. She is hoping there will be a big fight and they will rip the prize in half. (As you know, witches are evil, but we are trying to teach her by our good example).
In the photo below, they are intently listening to Granny read the note from Ugly Bugly. Their concern is palpable.
After an intricate discussion about the pros and cons of sharing, they agreed to open the prize before deciding. What a difference in one’s mood a few seconds can make. Amazing.
