The Song-Flight Connection
FABLES FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN
READING TIME: 1 minute
Only a few days after my birth, I was christened “Mugwump” by my mother, (i.e. a bird that sits on a fence with its mug on one side and its wump on the other; ref. image above). Since I have first-hand knowledge of life as a bird, I share this information with great authority.
EVERYONE HAS AN INNER BIRD
It is the quality that propels you to sing your heart’s song, whether happy or sad. Your inner bird is also why you’re capable of flight, lifting yourself above the gravity of life to soar to new heights and see life from a higher and brighter perspective.
My four avian recommendations:
Sing often to motivate action and wing flapping. Turn on tunes for the morning routine, sing overcoming songs when you’re blue, sing lullabies for peace. Ask Alexa, make playlists, just sing.
Listen. In those minutes when you’re waiting for your bagel to toast, for your ride to show up, or when you’re falling asleep, listen to your soul’s whispers. These whispers are clues to your goodness and gifts.
Fly often to inspire your best self to song. Reach a little higher, ask for forgiveness, dream a little bigger, heal a wound, be kind to yourself, risk failing, and, most important of all, do number 4.
Love birds. They are ancient descendants of dinosaurs! They can come back to the tree in your yard after a winter 2,000 miles away! They are beautiful, elegant, little angels soaring and singing around you everyday to remind you of your very own magical connection between song and flight.
“I fly because I sing. I sing because I fly.”

I love you,
