Accept Your Limitations

FABLES FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN

You can’t do everything you want to do. You can’t do everything other people want you to do. You might believe you can, but you are 100% wrong. Furthermore, if you try to do it all, it will make you miserable. Trade-offs are a part of life. We all need to learn to make trade-offs wisely.

So how do you choose when to say “yes” and when to say “no?” Here’s some hard won advice.

Get clear about your assets.
What things inspire you?
What are your talents and the things you enjoy doing? What does the world need from you?
How can you contribute?

Get clear about your vision.
With those things in mind, decide what things are important to you and prioritize them.

If you could do one thing with your life right now, what would it be?
What if you could do two things?
And keep going until you have a vision.

Say yes. Say no.
Invest your time in things that support your vision. Say yes to those and no to everything else. Can’t sneak it in. Have to say no.

Your energy is finite. If you spend 5% on 20 things, you make a little progress in a lot of areas. Not satisfying. Not helpful. Everybody does that.

Instead, focus your energy on 1-3 areas and make remarkable, satisfying, energizing, inspiring, awesome progress.  Exceedingly satisfying. World-changing helpful.

I love you,
Granny
