In this issue we introduce Sister Spirit’s Numb-Nun Yoga Classes, relay four contemplations that will be discussed at the July meeting of SOUL, and include three Gifts of the Spirit you are asked to give. These gifts include your story about a meaningful convent, any events that should be included in our Holy Days of Obligation, and a sharing of your true and false fitness journey. The Order will meet next on Tuesday, July 18. Click to read more.
Part of being a sister is helping each other to be better people. To that end, ideas for future “gifts of the spirit” are welcomed to create opportunities to better appreciate and love our family, our friends, and strangers (if they’re good looking).
Through giving these gifts to each other, we strive to purify our hearts, attain a sense of inner peace, foster personal transformation, and deepen our spiritual journey (but really Mary is just bossy and it’s easier to just go along with her crazy ideas).
Inspired by Samantha’s self-challenge to improve her level of fitness, we will share two things we’ve been doing to improve our health and well-being since our last meeting. We will tell one true thing and one make-believe thing and we will guess which is which. This is one of our Gifts of the Spirit we will give to each other along with support and encouragement. Or maybe just ridicule and taunting. Hard to say with hormones and all.

Remembering the Sisters of the Holy Nativity. Last month, our “gift of the spirit” was to bring a hilarious story that captured the lightheartedness and laughter inspired by our Mother Superior, Shirley Jane. This month, our first gift is to bring the story of how the Sisters of the Holy Nativity and their convent touched our lives. As I look at this chapel after the fire that destroyed this holy place, I am struck by all the nuns who knelt to pray here over the many, many decades. I imagine the echoes of their hymns, sung with folded hands and open hearts. This will be an uplifting conversation as each of our spirits have been touched by this convent in transformative ways.
Contemplations is a special project of our Order. This would have been our mom’s favorite part, I think.
