Two Minute Rule

FABLES FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN
READING TIME: 1 minute

If I remember correctly, I heard about this first from David Allen, the author of Getting Things Done - but I’m not sure he’s the one who invented the idea. Mr. Allen is a time management guru. In his system he has this idea called the “2 Minute Rule.”  It says if the task will take you less than two minutes, don’t put it on a list, just do it right away.

A lot of the things we avoid pile up in the back of our mind and make us feel bogged down and overwhelmed. The resistance is exhausting. So just do them. Sort the mail right away. Clean the frying pan, don’t let it sit in the sink until later. Throw that load in the washer. Make that medical appointment. Send a little text to your granny.

All these little successes change your brain chemistry, elevating both your mood and your sense of agency (i.e., your ability to be effective). It creates momentum and enthusiasm.

Will change your life. Guaranteed!

I love you,
Granny
